How AI email drafting works
When Daylit generates an email draft, the AI agent pulls together several pieces of context:- Customer profile — Company name, payment behavior, and relationship history.
- Invoice data — Invoice numbers, amounts, due dates, and days past due for all relevant open invoices.
- Communication history — Prior emails, calls, and actions taken, so the draft acknowledges recent contact rather than starting over.
- Template stage — The intended stage of the collection lifecycle (for example, pre-due, first reminder, final notice), which shapes the tone and content of the draft.
- Your templates and snippets — The subject and body templates you have configured, with any reusable snippet blocks inserted in the appropriate places.
Where to find AI-drafted emails
AI-generated email drafts appear in two places: Action Center (Inbox → Review) When the AI recommends an email action for a specific customer and invoice, it creates a draft and attaches it to the action. Click any email action row to open the draft in the side panel. Sequence queue (Inbox → Sequences) When a sequence step with type “email” becomes ready, Daylit renders the step’s template with live data for that customer and surfaces it in the sequence queue. Click a queue row to view the rendered draft before sending. For collection program emails, the rendered content appears inside the review batch panel when the touchpoint is in review delivery mode. See the Collection programs page for details on review batches.
Review and edit a draft before sending
Every AI-drafted email is fully editable before it leaves your mailbox.- Open the review or sequences in the inbox.
- The email panel displays the subject line, body, and recipient fields.
- Click into any field to edit it directly:
- Subject — Modify or replace the AI-generated subject line.
- Body — Edit the email body text, reformat paragraphs, or add custom messaging.
- To, CC, BCC — Add, remove, or change recipients. Daylit pre-fills the primary contact email from the customer record.
- When you are satisfied with the draft, click Review & Send. The email is delivered immediately through your connected email account.
Use snippets in email templates
Snippets are reusable content blocks that you define once and reference in any email template. Common examples include a payment portal link, your company’s bank transfer instructions, or a standard legal disclaimer. To add a snippet to a template, insert the snippet reference at the desired position in the body template. When Daylit renders the email, the snippet content is inserted inline and rendered with any relevant variables (such as the customer’s account number or the invoice total). Snippets are managed in Settings → Snippets. Each snippet has:- A name used to reference it in templates.
- A body containing the reusable text or HTML.
- Optional variables that are resolved at render time.
Send emails via your connected email account
Emails are sent through your own email account using the Nylas email integration, not through a Daylit-owned address. This means:- Emails arrive in your customer’s inbox from your actual business email address.
- Replies from customers land in your connected mailbox and are tracked in Daylit.
- Your email appears in your outbox and sent folder like any other sent email.
Email thread tracking
When a customer replies to a collection email, Daylit captures the reply and attaches it to the communication thread for that customer and invoice. You can view the full thread — your outbound emails and any customer replies — in the customer’s communication history. If you have configured a sequence with Send follow-ups in thread enabled, subsequent email steps in that sequence are sent as replies within the same email thread, keeping the conversation context visible to both your team and the customer. Thread tracking depends on the Nylas integration remaining connected and healthy. Replies are synced from your inbox automatically; no manual action is required to pull them into Daylit.Troubleshooting
A draft is missing invoice or customer details

Check that the customer’s invoices and contacts are synced and visible in Daylit. If data looks stale, review the connection status in Settings → Integrations before sending.
The tone is not right

Use Rewrite and give a short instruction, such as “make this firmer but still professional” or “mention the promised payment date.” Review the result before clicking Review & Send.
An email cannot be sent

Confirm the sender mailbox is connected in Settings → Integrations and that the draft has at least one recipient, a subject, and body content.

Check that the sender’s email connection is healthy. Replies sync from the connected mailbox, so a disconnected mailbox can prevent new replies from appearing in the communication thread.
